Can’t say we’re surprised.
Moving abroad to another country is an idea that can have a certain alluring, exotic appeal. Some people dream of one day going overseas to start life anew in a distant, foreign country, and it seems that perhaps the global pandemic may have influenced an increased desire for this.
According to a recent study conducted by Remitly on global search data, there has been a 29% increase in Google searches for ‘how to move abroad’ globally between January 2020 and October 2020. Furthermore, upon analyzing the list of places that inhabitants from 101 countries around the world searched for, the data clearly indicates that people consider that Canada is the most desirable place in the world to move abroad to.
According to the findings, thirty countries have Canada as their preferred move abroad destination. The next highest on the list are Japan — the country with the most move abroad searches from Canada — with 13 and Spain with 12, both having less than half of Canada’s total.
Here are the 30 countries that have Canada as their #1:
- Dominican Republic
- Antigua and Barbuda
- St Kitts & Nevis
- United Kingdom
- South Africa
To extract the data used in this ranking, Remitly looked at the average monthly search volume for keywords and phrases commonly associated with researching a move abroad and cross-referenced them with the most-searched location within each country.
