The warm concert series Candlelight simply needs no introduction. For years now, it’s brought powerful renditions to the most incredible spaces, both in Vancouver and worldwide — and the candlelit concert performances are now adding Christ Church Cathedral to the list of their historical venues.
The oldest surviving building in downtown Vancouver, Christ Church Cathedral is listed as a Class A Heritage Building by the city. Its marvelous stained-glass windows and preserved colors have stood the test of time — and we’re so excited to know it will be hosting a few Candlelight concerts this season.
On October 27, right on time for spooky season, the Christ Church Cathedral will host ‘A Haunted Evening of Halloween Classics’. Featuring the most mysterious pieces of music from ‘Thriller’ to Stranger Things‘ theme and ‘This Is Halloween’ from The Nightmare Before Christmas, the concert puts a twist on all your Halloween favorites. The talented Listeso String Quartet reimagines the scary tunes in a way that feels eerie and nostalgic.
In the same beautiful venue, you’ll get to enjoy ‘A Tribute to Coldplay’. A solo pianist will present classics like ‘Speed of Sound’, ‘Yellow’ and ‘A Sky Full of Stars’ in a fresh way — giving your favorite pop tunes a classic remake.
In the last 25 years, Christ Church Cathedral has undergone interior and exterior restoration to improve accessibility, ensure building stability and to beautify the stunning space. In 2015 and 2016, the Catheral went through the latest phase of its restoration project, expanding the church’s kitchen facilities to improve the organization of the Maundy Café — where the church’s community comes together to share delicious meals. Since Christ Church Cathedral provides easy access to its stunning location, you can grab a coffee while you’re waiting for your Candlelight concert to start!
Parking is available at a special $5 rate for Cathedral-related events in the Park Place Parkade (660 Hornby Street) and parking rates are valid weeknights after 6pm and Sundays from 7am – 8:30pm. The Cathedral is also well served by Public Transit Routes: Skytrain, Bus routes, the SeaBus and Westcoast Express are all within 5 – 20 minutes walk of front doors.
