The Response: Soft Action exhibit at the Polygon Gallery is only on until Sunday, February 6th!
As noted in a press release, this recent Response Project was “inspired by growing networks of care among arts communities throughout the pandemic”. Participating artists were encouraged to create films based on the question of how care translates into action, and the ways in which relationship shape our ways of being in the world. Reflecting on the themes of time, belonging and compassion – each of these short films in the Response project are beautiful forms of storytelling.
Keep in mind that this powerful exhibit is part the 2021 Response Program that North Vancouver´s Polygon Gallery runs in collaboration with the First Nations Student Services and the Indigenous Digital Filmmaking Program at Capilano University. Designed to educate participants in workshops led by Indigenous artists and Knowledge Holders last year, this powerful installation is a product of this important work. We encourage everyone to look deeper into the themes and ask yourself how you can personally contribute to this broader project.
The participating artists presented include: Arlene Bowman, Jordon Davis, Terreane Derrick, Caleb Ellison-Dysart, Xinyue Liu, Jacqueline Morrisseau-Addison, Ogheneofegor Obuwoma, kat savard, Lilian Rose Smith, Michelle Sound, Maura Tamez, and Ghinwa Yassine.
Each of these 12 incredible artists, a mix of filmmakers, photographers, poets, mixed-media artists, and students were of over 50 applicants for this unique exhibition. Every artist has unique specialization and perspective on the themes explored in the program, and we encourage you to discover which artwork resonates most with you.
