The circus’s lineage traces back to the 1600s to the Hanneford Family, one of the oldest circus families in the world. In 1903, the family began touring Ireland but because of the local tensions with England at the time, they branded themselves as the “Royal Hanneford Canadian Circus” to sound less British and it stuck!
